Ja’fari receives Iran’s first gold medal ever in grass skiing

Iranian skier Seyyed Morteza Ja’fari has displayed awe-inspiring athletic skills at the Grass Skiing World Cup in Iran, and managed to collect the country’s first gold medal in the sport.

On Friday, Ja’fari clocked 51.09 minutes in the giant slalom competitions staged at Dizin ski resort, located in the Alborz mountain range and near the capital, Tehran, to stand atop the podium.

Italy’s Eduardo Frau claimed the second title with 51.98 minutes, while Austrian skier Michael Stocker sat in the third place with 51.78 minutes.

Grass Skiing World Cup opened in Dizin ski resort, Iran, on August 6 and concluded the following day. The tournament, which brought together international skiers from five countries, was held in two disciplines of giant slalom and Super-G.

Giant slalom is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline. It involves skiing between sets of poles (gates) spaced at a greater distance to each other than in slalom but less than in Super-G.

Super-G is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. It is regarded as a “speed” event in contrast to the giant slalom and slalom.
