South Korea kicked off July by pulling out all the stops to lure back tourists to its famed attractions such as Seoul’s four biggest palaces, including the biggest South Korean palace Gyeongbokgung, as the South's tourism sector reels from its MERS outbreak, the largest outside Saudi Arabia. Not only Gyeongbokgung, but also Seoul’s three other main palaces - Changdeokgung, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its Secret Garden; Deoksugung, where medieval Korean and modern Western style architecture exist together in harmony; and Changgyeonggung, which housed residential quarters for queens during the Joseon Dynasty that lasted from 1392 through 1910. The move came as South Korea entered its peak tourist season ahead of hosting the Summer Universiade. Jennifer Chang has the story.
