The US and Turkey have been considering the creation of a safe zone west of the Euphrates River in Syria. They say the move is aimed at driving ISIL terrorists out of the region and deploying what they call moderate militants to protect it. Washington also says it has started using Turkey’s Injırlik Airbase to launch attacks on ISIL, but critics say the safe zone implies domestic interests for both Ankara, and Washington which have been calling for the ouster of Syrian President Bashar Al Assad. Our correspondent Verenia Keet reports from Istanbul.
