Iranian male and female karate practitioners have demonstrated impressive performances at the Thailand Open Karate-do Championship 2015, and collected six medals.
On Wednesday, Behnam Najafi overwhelmed his competitors in the march to the final bout of the men’s minus 60-kilogram weight category at the indoor Huamark Sports Complex in the Thai capital city of Bangkok, but eventually conceded defeat in the last competition and took the silver.
Mehdi Karimi and Alireza Hashemzadeh also claimed the bronze medal in the minus 55-kilogram and over 84-kilogram sections respectively.
The achievements came a day after Iran’s Yahya Shahgol knocked out his opponents in the men’s minus 63-kilogram individual kumite contests, and convincingly picked up the gold medal.
Iranian sportsman Mohammad Javad Behnam routed his rivals as he progressed to the final competition of men’s minus 68-kilogram weight class, and settled for silver.
Mahdiyeh Soghandi also received a bronze medal in the women’s individual kata division.
The Thailand Open Karate-do Championship 2015 opened in Bangkok on July 26, and will wrap up on July 30. Male and female karate fighters from 31 nations are contesting in the tournament.
