At least 21 Iraqi army soldiers and allied militiamen have been killed in car bombings carried out by suspected ISIL terrorists in the western province of Anbar.
Iraqi military sources said that the forces were killed on Friday after bombers rammed two explosive-laden vehicles into army posts in the area of Thar Thar, north of Fallujah.
At least two dozen soldiers and volunteers were also wounded in the bombings, the sources added.
The latest deadly attacks come as the Iraqi army continues its battle against the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in the troubled province. The government forces recently launched a massive operation to recapture the strategic city of Ramadi, the capital of Anbar, from the terrorist group.
Iraqi troops have gained more ground in their fight against the ISIL Takfiri terrorists in recent months. Units of army soldiers coupled with volunteer fighters are seeking to win back militant-held regions in joint operations.
Violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since ISIL launched its deadly terror campaign in June 2014, and took control of portions of Iraqi territory.
The ISIL terrorist group has been committing heinous crimes against all ethnic and religious groups in Iraq, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds and Christians.
