After receiving a call on Monday night, officers arrived at North California and East Hawthorne Streets in Stockton to see one man lying dead on the ground.
Two men and two women were injured and were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva said.
Silva said police have not arrested any suspect, noting it was not clear if this was a drive-by shooting.
However, authorities say that the incident may be gang-related.
