Iranian taekwondo practitioner Armin Hadipour Seighalani has shown an excellent performance at the 28th edition of Universiade in South Korea’s southwestern city of Gwangju, and captured a gold medal.
On Thursday, the 20-year-old recorded impressive victories in his march to the final at Chosun University Gymnasium, and collected the gold medal in the men's minus 54-kg category after defeating his Belgian competitor Mourad Laachraoui, 20, 4-1.
Earlier in the day, female shooter, Najmeh Khedmati, had earned 445.1 total points in the women’s 50-meter rifle three positions competitions at the Naju Jeollanamdo Shooting Range to clinch the bronze medal.
Roman athlete Laura-Georgeta Ilie sealed the gold after collecting 454.4 total points, while Russia’s Valentina Protasova picked up 453.5 total points to finish runner-up.
The 2015 Summer Universiade opened in Gwangju on July 3, and will run until July 14.
More than 9,000 student athletes and officials from over 170 countries are taking part in the event.
Iranian athletes are in action across eight sports. They are competing in artistic gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, taekwondo, shooting, archery, athletics and rowing.
Iranians have so far garnered nine medals, including three gold, two silver and four bronze medals, and have occupied the 11th spot in the international sports event.
