A Sukhoi Su-24M plane has crashed in Russia’s far-eastern Khabarovsk territory, leaving both pilots dead.
"Today at 14:35 Moscow Time the Sukhoi Su-24M plane crashed during the takeoff in the area of the Khurba airport (Khabarovsk territory) while performing a scheduled training flight. According to a report from the scene, both pilots died," Russia’s Defense Ministry announced on Monday.
The plane crashed in an uninhabited area, causing no damage on the ground, according to the ministry.
Subsequently, the Russian air force suspended all future flights with the Sukhoi Su-24M bomber until further notice.
The defense ministry's press service said on Monday that all Sukhoi "flights have been suspended before the cause(s) of the crash is/are established."
On Friday, a Russian Mikoyan MiG-20 plane crashed in the Krasnodar region. Its pilot managed to eject in time.
A MiG-29 aircraft also crashed in southern Russia last week. Again, both pilots ejected.
In February, a Sukhoi Su-24 left its two pilots dead after crashing near the town of Volgograd.
The Sukhoi Su-24 is used in the Russian air force as a bomber aircraft, as well as for gathering intelligence and training.
