The United States is advancing its hegemony around the world by the means of its nuclear weapons, international lawyer Barry Grossman says.
“The policies which advance US hegemony ultimately rely on the threat posed by its arsenal of nuclear weapons,” he said.
Grossman made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV, while commenting on a report published by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), saying the US and Russia continue to upgrade their nuclear stockpiles despite international calls for disarmament.
According to the report, all countries that have nuclear weapons are committed to retaining them for the indefinite future, and are either modernizing or building new systems.
“When it comes to proliferation, the policy of the world’s nuclear powers is driven, not by any coherent principle, but rather entirely by self-interest and the absurd premise that those nations which officially embrace the New World Order system can be trusted with nuclear weapons, while those which do not cannot,” Grossman said on Monday.
“If you look at a map of those countries which either have their own nuclear weapons or which host US controlled nuclear weapons as part of a nuclear alliance, it does not take any great skill to work out that pretty much every nation except those which oppose the US dominated international system that we have come to call the New World Order, rely on nuclear weapons to one extent or another to give clout to their policy positions,” he added.
“The 20th century demonstrated very clearly that there can be no solution to regional problems when one of the protagonists has nuclear weapons to the exclusion of the others. There is no better example of this than Israel which was permitted by successive US presidential administrations to develop a massive nuclear arsenal without compliance with the governing international treaties,” he said.
