Waste crisis in South Africa

The city of Johannesburg in South Africa is running out of landfill space. In an attempt to reduce waste going to landfill sites, the city wants to encourage citizens to adopt a culture of recycling.

By the end of 2016, the waste management company Pikitup wants to collect recyclable material from all households and businesses across the city.

For many, collecting recyclable stuff and selling them for cash, this is the only way to support their families.
