The Tanzanian government has approved a new law intended to reduce the number of foreign workers in the African country.

The Non-Citizens Employment Regulation Bill was introduced in March and will come into effect in July.

The new legislation will mean that only the Ministry of Labor will decide who gets foreign work permits, and which industries will be allowed to employ them.

The measure is expected to restrict the number of foreigners working in mining, agriculture and wider infrastructure projects.

Tanzania is known as an open society where foreign workers are welcome, but could that be about to change? In this episode of Africa Today, we ask could these new laws backfire on the country?
