The movie ‘Today’ by Iranian filmmaker Reza Mirkarimi has been awarded at the 2015 Washington, DC International Film Festival in the US.

Mirkarimi’s 88-minute movie received the SIGNIS Commendation award for illuminating and celebrating what it means to be human in a diverse and challenging world.

‘Today’ recounts the story of a reserved taxi driver who helps a pregnant, battered woman to get hospital care, despite considerable risk to himself.

The SIGNIS Jury members of the festival were Frank Frost (US), Karel Deburchgrave (Belgium), Marjorie Suchocki (US), Gregory Friedman (US) and Mary Link Frost (US).

The World Catholic Association for Communication, known as SIGNIS, is a non-governmental organization that brings together radio, television, cinema, video, media education, Internet, and new technology professionals.

‘Today,’ Mirkarimi’s latest production, has been screened and awarded in numerous international events. It was also submitted as Iran’s representative to compete for the Foreign Language Film Award category of the 87th Academy Award.
