Juventus beat Lazio 2-1, win Coppa Italia for record 10th time

Juventus Captain Giorgio Chiellini celebrates after scoring the equalizer against Lazio in Coppa Italia final on May 20, 2015.

Juventus have bagged their second domestic piece of silverware of 2015 after they beat Lazio 2-1 in the final of Coppa Italia, raising the hopes for a treble this season.

The old lady have already secured their 4th back to back Serie A title and are now focusing on their UEFA Champions League final match against mighty Barcelona.

However on Wednesday, it was the Bianconeri that were hit first at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico. Lazio Captain Stefan Radu put his side in front 1-0 in the 4th minute with a beautiful header.

Juve did not need to wait long for an equalizer as their Captain Giorgio Chiellini also went on the score-sheet with an acrobatic move that turned into his side’s first goal in the 10th minute.

Juventus Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal is carrying the Italian Cup in post match celebrations at the Stadio Olimpico on May 20, 2015.

The 1-1 draw remained intact in regular time and the match had to be decided in extra time.

Substitute Alessandro Matri then became hero for the Turin side when he lashed home from inside the box in the 7th minute of the first extra time to both seal the win and hand Juve their record 10th Italian cup victory which they last won in 1995.

Now, if Massimiliano Allegri’s men beat Barca in the final of the Champions League on June 6, it will be the first time an Italian club wins the treble since Inter Milan did so back in 2010 when Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho was in charge.
