An Iranian judicial official says the trial of Washington Post’s correspondent in Tehran, Jason Rezaian, will begin next week.
The first court hearing of Rezaian, who has been in detention for more than eight months, would be held in Tehran on May 26, the head of Iran’s judiciary spokesman’s office told Fars news agency on Tuesday.
The official did not say whether the hearing would be open to the public.
He also said two other suspects, who were detained alongside Rezaian, will also stand trial on the same day.
Director General of the Judiciary’s Tehran Province Office Gholam Hossein Esmaeili in July 2014 confirmed that Rezaian was apprehended.
Rezaian, a 39-year-old correspondent with dual Iran-US citizenships, along with his wife Yeganeh Salehi were arrested in Tehran on July 22, 2014. Two other American citizens also detained along with them work as freelance photojournalists.
Rezaian has been The Post’s correspondent in Tehran since 2012.
Salehi, who worked as a correspondent for the UAE-based National newspaper, was released on bail in October 2014. The two photojournalists have also been released.
