'UK pollsters need more accuracy'

Experts say the results of general elections in UK have showed that the pollsters need more accuracy.

The final results of UK general elections have been shocking not only in terms of the all-out victory of the Conservatives but also the wrong predictions of British pollsters.

An independent inquiry is to look at the accuracy of UK election polls, after they failed to predict the Conservatives' lead over Labour. To this end, the British Polling Council (BPC) will examine "apparent bias" and make recommendations for future polling.

In the run up to the election, almost every major national poll had predicted the race was neck and neck between the two main parties.

In a statement, the BPC said: "The fact that all the pollsters underestimated the Conservative lead over Labour suggests that the methods that were used should be subject to careful, independent investigation."

“Many people, many politicians, generally the public do look at these polls to get an indication of where the things are going. And really what we have seen is that actually they are not a great indicator,” London-based Political Commentator Raza Nadim told Press TV.

He went on saying that over the past years, polls have been used as a propaganda tools adding: “ It has never been this inaccurate before, but it just goes to show that next time around we are going to see a very different approach to the polling just because of such random results.”

Nadim also said the pollsters need a more accurate mechanism to get the true ideas of the public.

"Big part of these polls is asking people. They are called exit polls, so people as they are walking out, are explaining who they are voted for, etc. and some people would rather not say who they actually did” he concluded.
