The Islamic Republic of Iran’s Weightlifting Federation (IRIWF) has named weightlifting legend Hossein Tavakkoli as the new coach of the country’s senior team.
Tavakkoli was selected as the new head coach of the national weightlifting team after a three-hour meeting with IRIWF acting president, Seyyed Hassan Tabatabai, according to IRIB News.
Tavakkoli replaces Bahman Zare who quit the job after more than one year, citing "personal" reasons.
Tavakkoli snatched the gold medal in the 105 kg category at 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. He belongs to a golden generation of Iranian weightlifters who shined in international competitions in the 2000s. The 37-year-old has coached Iran’s weightlifting team at junior and under-23 levels.
