Two killed in bomb attack at Indian court

Security forces and police officers stand at the site of a bombing attack in New Delhi.

At least two people have been killed and more than one dozen injured after a bomb explosion went off near a court in the Indian capital, New Delhi.

The blast took place on the premises of the Arrah civil court in the eastern Indian state of Bihar’s Bhojpur district on Friday, leaving at least 16 others wounded.

According to reports, a woman, thought to have been carrying explosives, and a police officer were killed in the blast.

Police sources say the explosion erupted when a prison van carrying prisoners currently on trial arrived at the area.

An investigation has been launched into the attack.

“It is not clear whether it was a terrorist incident and investigations have started,” Zonal Inspector General (IG) Amarendra Kumar Ambedkar said.

The blast comes as authorities have tightened security in the country ahead of a planned visit by United States President Barack Obama.
