Genocide in Gaza

The US-Israeli genocidal war against Palestinian people continues unabated despite international outcries regarding the worsening humanitarian conditions in the besieged Gaza Strip. In their latest attack, Israeli warplanes bombed two homes and a farmland in eastern parts of Rafah city. Several more strikes were also reported on areas in central Gaza. The targets were refugee camps, including Nuseirat and Maghazi. Elsewhere in Gaza city, a mother and her two children were killed in their home in Zeitoun neighborhood. The total death toll has now risen to nearly 34,700. The number of the wounded Gazans has surpassed 78,000. Hospitals in Gaza lack enough medicine and equipment to treat the wounded as Health system in the besieged territory has totally collapsed under Israeli attacks and blockade.

Gaza ceasefire talks

Israel says it will not stop its war on the Gaza strip, which is Hamas’ main demand to reach a ceasefire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the Hamas demands, including a permanent ceasefire, in exchange for freeing the Israeli captives. Netanyahu said Israel would only pause attacking Gaza to release the captives who are believed to be more than 130. Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh says Israel's PM is sabotaging the efforts by mediators involved in the ongoing truce talks. Haniyeh says Netanyahu wants to invent constant justifications for the continuation of the aggression on Gaza while also expanding the circle of conflict to other parts of the region. The movement has said it won’t agree under any circumstance to a deal that does not explicitly include stopping the war and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Pro-Palestine protests

All the way from the US campuses to Asian universities, pro-Palestine protests are finding new voices throughout the world. Hundreds of university students in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, have taken to the streets in solidarity with Palestinians and called for ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Angry students burned an effigy of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They also condemned the US police for its brutal crackdown of the pro-Palestine students across the country. Also in Iraq, the students gathered at the University of Baghdad holding signs in support of Palestine. They hailed American university students for condemning the Israeli genocide against Palestinians. Several campuses across the United States have been scene of pro-Palestine protests. Initially peaceful protests turned violent after the police intervention. American security forces have detained hundreds of students and dismantled their protest encampments.
