EU chief condemns Israeli strike on World Central Kitchen team, demands probe
The European Union’s foreign policy chief has condemned the Israeli strike on a World Central Kitchen team operating in the Gaza Strip.
Josep Borrell on Tuesday denounced the attack on the aid workers who were delivering humanitarian food aid much needed in the besieged Palestinian territory. He paid tribute to the seven staff members of the US-based charity organization who were killed in the attack.
“I condemn the attack and urge an investigation,” Borrell said in a post on X. “Despite all the demands to protect civilians and humanitarian workers, we see new innocent casualties.”

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has also said he was "shocked and saddened" to hear about the strike. “Clearly there are questions that need to be answered.”
Irish Foreign and Defense Minister Micheal Martin also condemned the strike. "Appalled by the deaths of humanitarian workers in an Israeli strike, killed providing life-saving aid to the people of Gaza,” he said on X.
“Full accountability is needed. This again underlines the need for an immediate ceasefire to protect civilians and allow full humanitarian access.”
The World Central Kitchen said staff from Australia, Poland, the UK, and a US-Canada citizen were killed in the “targeted Israeli strike.”
It said its team was traveling in two armored cars and a soft skin vehicle in a “deconflicted zone” when it was targeted by the Israeli regime forces.
“The convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where the team had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza on the maritime route,” the group said in its statement.
The group said prior to its movements it had coordinated with the Israeli regime forces.
Benjamin Netanyahu acknowledged that the Israeli regime forces had carried out the brutal attack.
