Iranian karatekas snatch three medals in International Basel Open Masters

Iranian karate fighters have demonstrated fairly acceptable displays at the  International Basel Open Masters 2023 in Switzerland, and pocketed three medals, including a precious golden one, in the international tournament.

On Saturday, Sajjad Ganjzadeh got the gold medal in the men’s over 84-kilogram weight division after he managed to overcome his French opponent Faadel Boussag 4-1 in the final encounter of the category in the northwest Swiss city of Basel.

He had defeated representatives from Algeria, Turkey and Azerbaijan to reach the final.

Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh could not prevail over Georgian practitioner Anzor Donadze in the final contest of the men’s minus 75-kilogram weight section, and bagged a silver medal for Iran.

Moreover, Iranian karate fighter Mahdi Khodabakhshi earned a bronze medal in the men’s minus 84-kilogram weight class.

The International Basel Open Masters 2023 was staged in Basel, Switzerland, on September 16.

The tournament brought together dozens of male and female karate fighters from many countries, including Austria, Azerbaijan, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.
