La Liga: Barcelona 1-0 Espanyol

Over football news in Spain, Luis Suarez's second-half strike has consigned Barcelona's rivals, Espanyol, to a 1-0 defeat and relegation from La Liga in a darby that saw two red cards.

Espanyol knew anything but a win would relegate them to the second tier, and they were given hope, when substitute Ansu Fati was sent off five minutes after coming on, at the start of the second half.

However, Espanyol's one-man advantage lasted only three minutes, as Pol Lozano joined Fati in being dismissed. And it was Barcelona, who adjusted better to going a man down as Suarez struck the only goal of the match, after lashing a loose ball into the net in the 56th minute.

With the result, Barca moved a point behind leaders Real Madrid, who have a game in hand, while Espanyol's 26-year stay in La Liga was disrupted as they go down to the second division.
