People have taken to the street in the blockaded Gaza Strip to denounce Israel’s annexation plan.

Palestinians demonstrated in the Gaza Strip against Israel’s annexation plan and the so-called Deal of the Century. The Day of Rage protest was held following the Friday prayer in the southern Gaza town of Rafah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had set July 1st for the start of cabinet discussions on extending Israeli sovereignty over illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank and the Jordan Valley.

Netanyahu’s scheme however has not gone exactly as planned due to increasing rifts within his ruling coalition. During the rally Hamas movement called for armed struggle to liberate the West Bank from Israeli occupation.

Protesters slammed the United States’ unwavering support to the Israeli regime. During his self-proclaimed so-called Deal of the Century in January, US President Donald Trump gave Netanyahu the green light to annex Palestinian areas.

Palestinian estimates indicate that the Israeli annexation scheme will cover more than 30 percent of the occupied West Bank including the Jordan Valley.

Under international law, the West Bank, including Jerusalem al-Quds, is viewed as occupied territory therefore making the annexation illegal.

The US-backed annexation scheme has drawn international criticism and triggered waves of protest rallies around the globe.

Anger continues to grow in Palestine over Israel’s annexation plan. Palestinians say that they will stand united to fight all Israeli conspiracies.
