Borussia Dortmund have suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat against Mainz at the Signal Iduna Park to see their second place in the Bundesliga table in jeopardy.
Dortmund started the game strong but Mainz took a surprise lead in the 33rd minute when Bote Baku crossed the ball into the penalty area and Jonathan Bukardt powered a header into the bottom corner.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 49th minute through Jean Mateta who stepped up for the penalty and buried it into the right corner.
The result helps struggling Mainz to take a huge step towards safety while Dortmund remain second with 66 points.
