Iran can potentially host 40-50 million tourists each year, however, the current condition of the infrastructure such as airports, transportation, and hotels is not ready for such an influx of domestic and international tourists. So the government is providing incentives and provisions to increase hotels as well as bring infrastructures up to speed.

Currently, Iran's travel and hospitality industry is booming. Last year Iran hosted eight million tourists.

Each year Iran receives over half a million medical tourists which bring in 1.2 billion dollars in revenue annually.

The country is also seen as one of the top destinations for religious tourism across the globe; for example, 1.8 million travelers from Iraq alone visit Iran annually.

According to the government's 2025 vision plan, the number of foreign tourists should reach 20 million per year with estimated revenue of 30 billion dollars annually.

It will be interesting to see how the future will shape the hospitality and travel industry.
