Officials to investigate potential COVID-19 link with UCL match

@AFP

Public health authorities in the UK are to investigate a potential link between Liverpool’s recent Champions League match against Atletico Madrid and a coronavirus rise in the city.

Liverpool's mayor has ordered public health authorities to see if there is any connection after a number of deaths were blamed on the March 11th match between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid.

The match was attended by fifty two thousand people including three thousand from Madrid, at a time when Spain was already in partial lockdown.

The showpiece event could have been one of the mass gatherings that influenced the rise in Liverpool, which has so far taken 246 lives.

Based on reports the health authorities had warned the British government about the safety issues of this match at the time and had asked for a cancellation but the government along with UEFA decided to act otherwise.
