Hundreds evacuated as flooding threaten homes in southern France as Storm Gloria hits

"The river will come into my house. I have to leave," said an anxious resident from Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet, in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

Homeowners are anxiously watching rising river levels in the wake of Storm Gloria which has barrelled through the south of France.

The Agly and Aude rivers have burst their banks and been placed on red flood alert, causing the evacuation of some 1,500 people across six villages.
