Palestinians in the Gaza Strip held a funeral for 16-year-old Fahd al-Astal, who was shot dead by Israeli snipers on Friday.

During the processionو mourners roamed the streets shouting slogans against the Israeli regime. A mixture of grief and anger was the mood among Gazans over Israel’s killing of a young protester.

Fahd al-Astal was taking part in a peaceful demonstration marking International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in the east of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younes. Fahd‘s distraught family says the teenager was an active supporter of the Palestinian cause.

Palestinians organized the Great March of Return to call for the legitimate right of Palestinian refugees to return to the historic land of Palestine, as enshrined in United Nations Resolution 194, and the lifting of the illegal blockade. Their peaceful action was met with excessive and lethal of force by the Israeli regime.

Israel’s impunity has only brought pain and suffering for hundreds of families in the Gaza Strip. Killing peaceful demonstrators is a violation of their right to life, health and freedom of assembly.

Israel forces have killed hundreds of peaceful protesters and injured thousands since the start of the Great March of Return. Palestinians are calling on the international community to put an end to Israel’s inhumane practices.
