Champions League: Napoli 2-0 Liverpool
Over football news, European Champions Liverpool have started their UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2-nil loss against Italian Club Napoli in Group E.
Both sides missed many chances during the match, but the hosts piled on the pressure and Belgian striker Dries Mertens opened the scoring for Napoli from the spot with just 8 minutes left.
But that was not the end for the defending champions, as newly joined striker Fernando Llorente then capitalized on a mistake from Virhil Fan Dyke in stoppage time to secure Napoli’s victory. The Merseyside Reds are the first winners of the competition to lose their opening game of the tournament since AC Milan in 1994.
