Third murder reported on streets of London in 24 hours

Another person has been killed in a case of street violence in the British capital London as stabbings and shootings continue to claim the lives of more people.

The Metropolitan Police, The Met, said on Saturday that a man in his 30s had been killed overnight after he was stabbed in an area in Tower Hamlets, in east London.

The death came hours after two young men were killed in separate stabbing and shooting incidents in the capital city.

The Met said it was still a top priority to respond to violent crimes in London, a city where stabbings have become a routine method for manslaughter over the past years.

“Bearing down on violent crime on the streets of London continues to be a top priority for the Met, adding, “Teams across the city are working tirelessly – day and night – to identify and pursue offenders,” they said in a statement.

Police have yet to come up with a clue about the fatal stabbing early on Saturday as there were no reports of arrest linked to the case.

The two murders reported on Friday evening took place just 12 minutes apart and in areas in southwest and southeast London.

Police forces across the UK have on several occasions blamed the surge in violence in London and other large cities on cuts to their budgets, saying years of austerity measures have rendered the them understaffed and unable to see to all emergencies.

The Met said that tackling the knife crime epidemic, which killed a record number of people in London last year, was beyond the means of the police force.

“The police cannot solve this problem alone. The police, our partners and the public must work together to deal with knife crime and prevent further lives being lost,” said the force in its statement.
