La Liga leaders Barcelona have smashed their hosts Levante 5-nil, in a match that saw Lionel Messi celebrating the 31st La Liga hat-trick of his career.
Barca opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Luis Suarez volleyed home on a Messi cross. Then, a clinical finish from Messi himself made it 2-nil for the catalans just before the break and scored his second after converting Jordi Alba’s low cross.
The Argentinean ace completed his hat-trick through a master class teamwork with Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal at the hour mark. The hosts were reduced to 10 men before Barca put an end to their misery, when Gerard Pique buried another contribution from Messi in the 88th minute. Barca are now 3 points ahead of Sevilla on the La Liga table.
