Algeria plane crash

An Algerian military plane has crashed near the country’s capital Algiers, killing at least 257 people. The aircraft, a Soviet-designed Ilyushin il-76 which was carrying soldiers, went down in a farm field soon after taking off from the Boufarik military base. It was heading to another military base in southwest Algeria. Rescue forces have rushed to the crash site to recover bodies from the wreckage and help survivors. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash.

Russia warns US

Tensions rise between Russia and the United States over a possible American attack on Syria. The Russian ambassador to Lebanon warned Washington against such an attack. The Russian diplomat was speaking with Lebanon’s al-Menar TV channel. A top Russian lawmaker has echoed similar warnings. The senior member of the Russian Upper House Defense Committee said Moscow will respond immediately if its military in Syria is hit by a possible US airstrike. Washington has threatened military action against Syria over a weekend reported chemical attack there. The Kremlin says allegations that the Syrian government carried out the attack are not based on real facts. Russia and the US also clashed at a Tuesday session of the UN Security Council over the issue.

Yemen drone strikes

At least four Yemeni children have been killed in the latest wave of the Saudi aggression on Yemen. The attack was an airstrike targeting the north-western city of Sa’dah, in the district of Razih. It has also left ten civilian injuries, all of them children. Yemen is stepping its retaliatory responses to the assaults from Riyadh as well. Shortly before the latest Saudi assault, Yemeni drones targeted Abha International Airport in the Saudi capital of the southwestern Asir region. Yemen’s Air Force also used Qasef-1 type UAVs to strike a branch of the Saudi Arabian oil company, Aramco, in the Jizan region. At least 14,300 people, mostly civilians, have lost their lives since Riyadh started its military campaign against its southern neighbor in March 2015.

Iranian official in Eastern Ghouta

A senior advisor to the Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution has visited Syria’s newly-liberated Eastern Ghouta. In a meeting with military commanders in the former militant-held region near the capital Damascus, Ali Akbar Velayati reaffirmed Iran’s support for Syria and its people’s resistance against the terrorists. Velayati underlined the necessity of further expansion of bilateral ties to counter the threats of the US, Israel and their regional stooges. He congratulated the victories of the Syrian army in Eastern Ghouta, and described as pivotal the strategic ties between Tehran and Damascus. The advisor to Iran’s Leader earlier met with Syria’s foreign minister Walid al-Muallem.

Yemen retaliatory attack

Yemeni fighters say they have launched yet another retaliatory ballistic missile strikes against Saudi Arabia. At least three explosions were heard in the Saudi capital Riyadh and three clouds of smoke could be seen in the sky over the city. Al Masira TV close to Yemen’s Ansarullah movement says at least one missile targeted the Saudi Defense Ministry in Riyadh. It added that several rockets were launched at different parts of the kingdom. One of the targets was said to be the facilities of the Saudi Oil Giant, ARAMCO in Najran. The Saudi military has confirmed the attacks but claims it intercepted one missile over Riyadh. Another rocket was reportedly intercepted over the Jizan region, in the southwest corner of the kingdom.

US threat against Syria

The US president says missiles will be coming to Syria, in response to a Russian warning that Moscow will shoot down any missiles fired at the Arab country. In a tweet, Donald Trump blamed Russia for partnering with the Syrian government. Trump stressed that the US will use it’s nice, new and smart missiles against Syria. Russia has reacted to the US president’s threats. However, the Pentagon chief says Washington is still assessing intelligence on alleged chemical attack in Syria. Meanwhile, Russia has said that the US missiles should target terrorists, not Syria's legal government. Moscow also accused Washington of trying to destroy evidence of alleged chemical attack in Syria. Earlier, the Russian ambassador to Lebanon warned the White House against such an attack.
