France: Anti-fascist protesters march for rights of refugees in Paris

Paris

Activists marched through Paris on Saturday to condemn what they see as persecution of refugees by the French state.

Demonstrators braved freezing temperatures in the capital, to criticize state policy towards asylum seekers, and against police violence.

Spokesperson for the New Anti-capitalist Party Christine Poupin said the protest was for "refugees’ rights and against police repression.”

French President Emmanuel Macron’s government is currently debating plans to toughen France’s immigration policy, including quicker deportations for those who do not qualify for asylum.
