Indonesia's Sinabung volcano unleashes towering ash column

The Mount Sinabung volcano in the Karo Regency of Northern Sumatra erupted on Monday, sending plumes of ash five kilometers into the atmosphere with torrents of searing gas being ejected over four kilometers down its slopes.

The 2,460-meter tall volcano has been kept on the highest alert level since mid 2015, with occasional eruptions since 2013.
