Iran A fails to advance to AVC beach tour final showdown

The Iranian men’s national beach volleyball A team

The Iranian men’s national beach volleyball A team has not managed to earn a spot in the title challenge of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Beach Tour - Palembang Open in Indonesia, after it could not prevail over the hosts in a semi-final showdown.

On Sunday morning, Indonesians Ade Candra Rachmawan and Mohammad Ashfiya stunned Iranian top seeds Rahman Raoufi and Bahman Salemi in straight sets (21-11 and 21-19) and advanced to the men’s final.

Earlier, the Iranian squad had defeated the Australian B pair, consisting of Joshua Court and Zachery Schubert, in a quarter-final match.

The Iranian duo will take on Qatar's top national beach volleyball pair of Santos Pereira Jefferson and Julio Donascimento in the third-place playoff.

The Indonesian pair of Candra and Ashfiya will meet Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan of Qatar in the final match.

The AVC Beach Tour - Palembang Open kicked off on October 18, and will finish on October 22, 2017.
