Las Vegas carnage prompts new calls for gun control in US

The mass shooting in the US city of Las Vegas has renewed debates over gun control laws in the country.

Democratic lawmakers have underlined the need for such regulations, while Republicans have remained silent. During his 2016 campaign President Donald Trump promised the US gun lobby, the National Rifle Association, to protect the second amendment, which grants Americans the right to buy and bear arms.
