US facing accusations of provoking North Korea

Tensions between the US and North Korea have turned into a war of words between American president Donald trump and the north’s leader Kim Jong-un as well as other north Korean officials. In one of his latest comments, trump has once again threatened Pyongyang with military action. The US president said in a tweet in response to comments by the North Korean foreign minister at the UN: "Just heard Foreign Minister of North Korea speak at U.N. If he echoes thoughts of Little Rocket Man, they won't be around much longer!"  On Saturday, Ri Yong Ho called Trump a mentally deranged person full of megalomania. The top North Korean diplomat also said an attack on the U.S. mainland is "inevitable".

Impacts of German elections to go beyond borders

Millions of Germans went to the polls on 24 September in national elections to determine the make-up of the new parliament; and decide if Angela Merkel could remain chancellor for the fourth terms in a row.  For the first time since WWII, six parties are expected to enter the Bundestag, the national parliament, including a group of right-wing nationalists. Many experts believe big changes are taking place in both the tone and substance of German politics. The 2017 German election matters to the rest of Europe, too. Germany plays a dominant role in the European Union, partly because of the size of its economy. It also pays more than any other country into the EU budget. The makeup of the new government could determine what stance Berlin takes on a number of forthcoming EU issues.
