Saudi atrocities

12 people have been killed in Yemen after Saudi jets hit a car in the Ma’rib governorate.

The attack happened in the district of Harib al-Qaramish on Saturday evening. Six women and two children were among the victims. Reports say that all of the victims were from the city of Sirwah. Nearly 13,000 Yemenis have so far been killed since Saudi Arabia launched its military campaign against its neighbor in March 2015.

Amnesty calls out Myanmar

Amnesty International has urged Myanmar’s government to stop its rhetoric and violations against Rohingya Muslims. The Amnesty’s campaign coordinator for armed conflicts was speaking at a protest rally in Paris.

Protesters held banners describing the campaign against Rohingya Muslims as genocide and massacre. Nina Walch also called on Myanmar’s leader Aung San Suu Kyi to publicly denounce the crackdown on the Muslim minority.

Israeli arrests of children

New figures by the Palestinian prisoners’ affairs commission reveal the Israeli army has arrested at least 927 children since the beginning of the year. Palestinian human rights groups have warned that Israeli military courts have recently resorted to long sentences for Palestinian children as a new strategy to stem popular resistance in the occupied territories.

US racial tensions

At least seven people have been arrested in St Louis, Missouri, after the US riot police moved to disperse the remaining protesters.

Violence erupted as hundreds of officers formed a line to push back the protesters. The demonstrators fled down the streets, fighting back and throwing water bottles and trash cans at the officers. Several shop windows were also shattered. Police had declared the rally unlawful and used tear gas and rubber bullets during clashes with demonstrators.

North Korea sanctions

South Korea and the United States are gearing up for more stringent measures against North Korea over its nuclear and missile programs.

The South Korean spokesman added that President Moon Jae-in and his US counterpart Donald Trump had agreed to exert stronger and practical sanctions against Pyongyang. He stressed that the North’s provocative actions would lead to its further diplomatic isolation. The statements came a day after the North Korean leader vowed to complete his country’s nuclear weapons program despite the UN sanctions. Kim Jong-un said his goal was to reach equilibrium of military force with the US. On Friday, the North launched yet another missile that flew over Japan before landing into the northern Pacific Ocean. The launch prompted the UN Security Council to issue a unanimous condemnation, demanding that Pyongyang immediately halt such actions.

Palestinian talks

Palestine’s Fatah movement has welcomed a pledge by the Palestinian Resistance Movement Hamas to end their decade-old split.

A Senior Fatah leader has said that his party welcomes Hamas’ proposal shortly after the Gaza-based movement said it would accept key negotiation conditions as agreed upon in the Egypt talks. An agreement between the two sides can lead to a general election and the subsequent formation of a power-sharing unity government in Gaza and the West Bank. All reconciliation efforts have failed over the past decade, but Egypt’s mediation in recent days seems promising.
