Unseeded Sloane Stephens has continued to shock the tennis world as she claimed her first Grand Slam crown after thrashing Madison Keys 6-3, 6-love in the first all-American US Open final.
The world No. 83 took charge of the match from the beginning to grab the opener with relative ease, capitalizing on a disappointing number of unforced errors and shaky performance from Keys.
The crowds at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows were on their feet on Saturday as the rock-solid Stephens showed remarkable consistency and prowess to wrap up the encounter with a bagel in the second in only 61 minutes.
With the triumph, the 24-year old has become the 5th lowest-ranked woman to win a Grand Slam title in the Open era.
