Junior Iranian footballers have begun their campaign at the 45th edition of Asian School Football Championship in a fairly convincing fashion, defeating the Malaysian side in its opening match.

On Saturday evening, the Iranian students’ national football A team overcame the Malaysian team 2-0 in a Group B fixture played at Be’sat Stadium in the south-central Iranian city of Shiraz.

Even though the Malaysian side performed better in the first half, it could not produce a goal and the period finished scoreless.

The Persians opened the second half with more offense; but their Southeast Asian opponents responded with a string of threatening counterattacks that yielded no result.

Finally, Iranian striker Mohammad Saberipour could find the back of the net in the 78th minute, and scored the opener.

He seized another marvelous scoring opportunity two minutes later, and doubled his team’s lead.

In another Group B match of the day, the Chinese students’ national football team trounced the Sri Lankan side 6-3 at the multi-purpose Hafeziyeh Stadium.

The 45th edition of Asian School Football Championship began in Shiraz, Iran, on September 6, and will finish on September 16, 2017.

The Iranian students’ national football B team has been drawn in Group A along with India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Thailand.

Group B consists of the Iranian students’ national football A team, China, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
