Iranian freestyle wrestlers bag two medals at Cadet World Championships

Young Iranian freestyle wrestlers have featured acceptable displays of physical might and grappling skills at the 2017 Cadet World Championships in Greece, and scooped two medals.

On Saturday and the sixth day of the international sporting event at the Ano Liosia Olympic Hall in the Greek capital city of Athens, Iranian wrestler Abbas Ali Foroutanrami lost to his Russian opponent Alan Bagaev 1-1 in the final bout of the 85-kilogram weight category, and collected the silver medal.

Gavin Lee Hoffman from the United States overcame his Indian rival Sandeep Singh Mann 7-2 in the third-place contest, and got the bronze medal.

Ukraine’s Danylo Stasiuk also defeated Uzbek contestant Mukhammadrasul Rakhimov 6-4.

Furthermore, Mohammad Ashghar Nokhodilarimi downed Masaki Sato from Japan 5-2 in the 69-kilogram weight division, and snatched the bronze medal.

Soslanbek Budaev from Russia prevailed over Turkey’s Umur Aybey 5-4, and earned a bronze medal.

William Francis Lewan of the United States got the better of Azerbaijani rival Daud Ibragimov in the gold-medal bout, and defeated him 3-1. 

The 2017 Cadet World Championships began on September 4 and will finish on September 10.
