Qatar has decided to return its ambassador to Iran and restore full diplomatic relations with Tehran. Doha recalled its envoy to Tehran 20 month ago following the lead of Saudi Arabia and its allies.

Qatar’s decision to mend ties with Iran comes amid the backdrop of a diplomatic standoff between Doha and other Persian Gulf Arab states.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt cut all diplomatic relations with Qatar in June. They accuse Doha of supporting terrorism.
