Thousands of Indonesian Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) supporters protested in front of the Myanmar embassy in Jakarta, Wednesday, demanding its closure and calling for immediate action to halt the persecution of Rohingya Muslims.

The protesters set fire to a Myanmar flag, before attempting to tear down a razor wire barricade in order to reach the embassy, leading to police intervention.

The resurfacing of violence in Myanmar is being blamed on last week's attack on the country's police forces that left 12 officers dead. The Myanmar military claims to be targeting Rohingya militants in response, amid reports of widespread killings, arson, looting and rape in Rohingya villages.

The number of Rohingya Muslims fleeing the violence in Myanmar has reached around 123,000 since late August, according to UN estimates.
