World No. 3 Roger Federer has cruised into the round of 16 at the US Open following a decisive straight sets victory over Feliciano Lopez in New York.

Federer only needed an hour and 46 minutes on Sunday to dismantle his Spanish opponent 6-3, 6-3, 7-5, in a match that saw his serve broken just once.

The 19-time Grand Slam winner produced a smooth-running performance as he won 85 percent of his first-serve points overall.

The Swiss maestro will move on to meet Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany in the round of 16. The 36-year-old veteran looks set to grab his 3rd Grand Slam title this year and his 6th career US Open championship.
