Triple world champion Lewis Hamilton has registered a record 69th Formula 1 pole positions, his fourth in arrow at Monza, in a wet Italian Grand Prix qualifying.

The Mercedes driver was more than a second quicker than Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who finished second fastest, in a much-delayed session which ended more than three and a half hours after it started.

This is while, Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo finished third. However, Verstappen and Ricciardo have both picked up grid-penalties, which means Canadian driver Lance Stroll will move up from fourth to start on the front row.

Hamilton, who is seven points behind championship leader Sebastian Vettel, has a good chance on Sunday to take the overall lead.
