Sharapova beats Halep on return to US Open

Russia’s Maria Sharapova has made a strong and impressive return to Grand Slam tennis, by defeating Simona Halep of Romania, in the 1st round of the US Open.

The former world No.1, who received a wild card to play in her 1st major tournament since returning from a 15-month doping ban, overcame her Romanian rival with a score-line of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a match lasted for 2 hours and 44 minutes.

Sharapova will take on Hungary's Timea Babos, in round 2 on Wednesday.
