Congo's economic crisis

Congo economic crisis

The African nation of Congo is in crisis: The country's export revenues have dropped and public debt is rising dramatically. The situation has prompted the cabinet to resign. A statement by the president has described the situation as troubling that needs a new government to mend. "The situation in the country is troubling. I will need to lean on a government that is effective and fully mobilized to implement bold reforms and appropriate policies in order to revive the national economy."

US plans for Syria

Another wrench in the complex efforts to end the conflict in Syria. The US is planning to stay in Syria for decades. That’s according to Washington's main ally in the war, Syria’s Kurdish fighters known as the YPG. They say the US military will remain in northern Syria long after Daesh is defeated. Meanwhile, a spokesman for a coalition of Arab and Kurdish fighters says the US is considering building a base with a military airport, even though there are reports of multiple bases already built.
