Iran nuclear deal

The Iranian foreign minister has reiterated that Tehran will give a proportionate response in case the US violates the landmark nuclear agreement. Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the US had proven throughout the history that it could break its promises. Zarif warned that Tehran could form a global front against Washington should the US violate the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries. The top Iranian diplomat noted that Washington’s failed experience of threats and sanctions forced the US to come to the negotiating table. He stressed that the US would be further isolated if it pulled out of the agreement.

Solidarity against terror

Members of Barcelona's Muslim community have held a minute of silence to pay tribute to the victims of this week’s terrorist attacks in Spain. Barcelona Muslims gathered next to the memorial of the victims, and were joined in their tribute by other people paying their respects. Fourteen people were killed in three attacks in the cities of Barcelona and Cambrils on Thursday. The Spanish police have confirmed they are still hunting for the main suspect of Barcelona assault, a 22-year-old Moroccan-born man. The Daesh terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack.

Unpopular president

Latest polls show US President Donald Trump suffering more unpopularity, with his approval rating slumping under 40 percent in some of his electoral strongholds. Results from an NBC News/Marist poll show 55 percent of voters in Michigan disapprove of Trump's performance, while only 36 percent approve. His approval ratings in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were 35 and 34 respectively. Trump also seems to be losing support among key demographic groups in the three key states. Trump was able to flip the states during the 2016 election, which helped him gain the Electoral College threshold needed to win the presidency. Analysts see Trump's failure to condemn white supremacists for the deadly violence in the city of Charlottesville as one of the main reasons for the drop in popularity. The telephone poll also showed that Democrats have the lead over a year ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.

US warship collision

The US guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain has collided with a merchant vessel east of Singapore and the Strait of Malacca. 10 sailors are missing and 5 have been injured. Initial reports from the US navy indicate that the warship suffered damage. According to officials with US 7th Fleet Public Affairs, search and rescue operations are under way in coordination with local authorities. In June, a US destroyer was badly damaged and seven American sailors were killed in a collision off the coast of Japan. Guided-missile destroyers are designed to launch guided missiles and are also equipped to carry out anti-submarine, anti-air and anti-surface operations.

Fight against Daesh

The Lebanese army says it has managed to retake 80 square kilometers of territory since it launched an offensive against Daesh. Meanwhile, Hezbollah is inflicting heavy defeats on the terrorists on a different front with the help of the Syrian army. Our correspondent Mariam Saleh has a report.

Italy eviction

The UN's refugee agency has expressed concern over the eviction of 800 refugees from a building in the Italian capital of Rome. UNHCR says 200 of those expelled from the building on Saturday slept on the streets. The agency urged local and national authorities to find an immediate solution. The world body also noted that the refugees had absolute right to international protection. It asked officials to ensure adequate integration measures for the evicted people. Italy has been struggling to host thousands of refugees as it has become harder for them to reach other European countries. Some Italians are against settling the refugees in the European country.

Russia airstrikes against Daesh

Russia says its air force has targeted a Daesh convoy in Syria, killing over two-hundred terrorists. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, vehicles carrying large-caliber weapons were heading to the city of Dayr al-Zawr. The air raid also destroyed the terrorists’ vehicles and ammunitions. The ministry said following heavy losses in Raqqah and Homs provinces, the terrorists are now trying to make their last stand in Dayr al-Zawr. Daesh Takfiri terrorists, who control most parts of the province, have kept the provincial capital under siege since 2014. Russian authorities say recapturing Dayr al-Zawr will mark the end of Daesh in Syria.

Sierra Leone landslides

In Sierra Leone, 38 more bodies are discovered, raising death toll from mudslide on the outskirts of the capital Freetown to nearly five-hundred. Authorities say the bodies were sent for immediate burial. Meanwhile, rescue operations are still being conducted to find survivors. As the fear of cholera outbreak grows, forces are swiftly digging up bodies, stopping fluids from corpses getting into the water supplies. Thousands of residents have been warned to evacuate the area before diseases break out. Parts of residential areas east the capital were buried last week as heavy rains caused a side of Sugar Loaf Mountain to collapse.
