Belgians have honored a 22-year-old tradition of making a giant omelet amidst a tainted egg crisis.

Hundreds of people flocked to the town of Malmedy for the annual "Giant Omelet" festival. Volunteers and chefs used nearly 10,000 eggs to make the omelet in an oversize pan. They later distributed it among the public.

The World Giant Omelet Brotherhood has organized the festival in Malmedy for more than 20 years. At least 1,000 people braved to get a bite of this traditional dish, but the turnout was far below last year's record of 7,000.

The giant omelet was made with eggs, oil, bacon and green onions over wood fire. The organizers spent a week preparing for this year's culinary event, collecting eggs from carefully-selected places.
