Spanish giants Barcelona have thrashed Chapecoense 5-0 in their traditional curtain-raiser, the Joan Gamper Cup, which was held as a tribute game to the Brazilian club which lost most of its playing and coaching staff in an air crash last year.

The three players who survived the crash were all guests of Barcelona and were given a separate tribute. Alan Ruschel, in his first game since the incident, played the opening 35 minutes before being subbed off to a standing ovation.

Goals from Gerard Deulofeu, Sergio Busquets, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Denis Suarez saw the La Liga side earn a comfortable victory over Chapecoense on Monday.
