Olympic champion Omar McLeod has handed Jamaica their first gold medal of the event by winning the 110 meters hurdles.

The 23-year-old dominated the race and claimed the title in 13.04 seconds. McLawed was 1/10 of a second faster than defending champion Sergey Shubenkov of Russia who was competing as an authorized neutral athlete, with Russia still banned from international athletics.

Meanwhile, Balazs Baei of Hungary took bronze in 13.28 seconds. The 110 meters hurdles title was Jamaica’s first gold at the championships after the shock defeats of Usain Bolt and Elaine Thompson in the 100 meters events.
